The University of Texas System Board of Regents has approved the construction of a $108 million student housing complex at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

The university says the complex will address the high demand for more housing on campus; UTEP housing has been at 100% capacity for four consecutive years.

“More and more students and families are putting their trust in a UTEP education, and we’re bursting at the seams,” said UTEP President Heather Wilson.

The facility will be a four-story, co-ed residence hall for freshmen with 456 beds in single- and double-occupancy rooms. Amenities will include a fitness center, lounges and a study room. A large dining hall will also be incorporated.

“We intend for this housing complex to be cost-effective and as affordable as possible for future students,” said Brendan Gallagher, vice president of business affairs. “It will have competitive pricing for our region.”

In the last two years, UTEP housing applications have increased by more than 15%. Retention among returning student residents has also increased. In fall 2024, 50% of students living on campus were returning students. For fall 2025, that number is nearly 60%.

The new complex will be built on the north side of Kidd Field. When it opens in 2028, it will increase the university's student housing capacity to 1,500.
