The University of South Florida's Sarasota-Manatee campus has unveiled its newly completed student housing building — the first of its kind for the campus that has long catered to commuting students.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that the $44 million Atala Hall in Sarasota will house about 200 University of South Florida and New College of Florida students. The project cost an estimated $44 million, according to a university spokesperson, and encompases more than 100,000 square feet.
Officials say the building's opening marks a new chapter in the history for the school, which has been a commuter school since opening in 1975.
The university says in a news release that USF Sarasota-Manatee is now a full-service campus, complete with a student center that includes not only student housing, but also a dining hall, book store, study lounges, game room and other amenities.
