Stockton University and the Atlantic City Development Corp. have announced a public-private partnership to build a student residence hall at Stockton University Atlantic City.

GlobeSt.com reports that the 140,000-square-foot building in Atlantic City, N.J., is phase two of the partnership. The facility will feature apartment-style units with a total of 416 beds. It also will have a lounge, meeting room and laundry facilities. Residents will have access to the existing parking garage.

The residence hall will be built on the site of the Eldredge Building near the Atlantic City campus. Demolition of the Eldredge Builiding is projected for summer 2020.

In the first phase of the partnership, Stockton Atlantic City opened in fall 2018 with an academic building, a 543-bed residential complex and parking garage. This spring, almost 1,500 students are taking at least one class in the John F. Scarpa Academic Center.

“We are excited to be able to expand our presence in Atlantic City and contribute to creating a more diversified economy," Stockton President Harvey Kesselman said. "The new residence hall will allow even more students to live, learn and earn in Atlantic City through academic, internship and employment opportunities.”

Construction is expected to begin in fall 2020.

The target completion date is fall 2022.
