Gillespie Residence Hall and Student Center is the first student housing facility to be added to Harris-Stowe State University, St. Louis, since its founding 150 years ago.

Construction of the four-story residence hall began in July 2005 and was completed in August 2006. The $15 million facility can accommodate about 228 students and houses a student center that is open to the entire campus community. The suites include four bedrooms and two full bathrooms, a kitchen and combined living/dining area.

The student center amenities include a campus bookstore, computer lab, study area, large conference room, health and counseling suite, and student activities offices. A 150-seat amphitheater is situated outside the entrance.

The 82,000-square-foot residence hall was built using local basic materials to prevent fabrication and transportation delays.

The project architect is KAI Design & Build (St. Louis), and Kwame Building Group (St. Louis) provided pre-construction and construction-management services.
