The 31-year-old bus driver and 14-year-old student were killed on impact; other students who were on board during the crash were injured and taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.

A school bus crash Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania has left two dead -- the bus driver, and a 14-year-old girl.

The bus driver, a 31-year-old man, and the girl were killed on impact, according to Butler County Deputy Coroner, John Hanovick. Their names were not immediately available, reports The Pittsburgh-Post Gazette. The bus crashed into the rear end of a tractor-trailer near Interstate-79 and Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township, Pa.

Five other students were injured.

The girl was one of about 10 students from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland, Pa. who were riding on the bus, reports WXPI Channel 11 News.

Several of the students were injured.

According to Pennsylvania State Police troopers, a tractor-trailer and school bus, both traveling in the northbound lanes, collided. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.

“Severe to moderate injuries” were initially reported onboard the school bus. Students on the bus were taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh by medical helicopter and ambulance. An official with UPMC said five teens were taken to Children’s Hospital and were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police had not determined what caused the crash.
