Southern Illinois University's law school will use former high school building in Belleville as a training center

July 8, 2022
The law school will establish the Southwestern Illinois Justice and Workforce Training Center in the Belleville facility, which most recently was a satellite campus for Lindenwood University.

Southern Illinois University School of Law will begin a new program in a former high school building in Belleville.

The law school says it will lease office space and a classroom from the city of Belleville for its new Southwestern Illinois Justice and Workforce Training Center, reports Belleville News-Democrat. The program will be one of several tenants in the facility.

Students will take classes with a judge and attorney while also interning in the state and federal court systems in St. Clair County.

The building originally housed Belleville Township High School and later Belleville West High. Lindenwood University, based across the Mississippi River in St. Charles, Mo., operated a satellite campus in the building from 2003 to 2020.

The city bought the property last fall for $3 million and renamed it the Belleville Educational Complex.
