New York City gets new schools chancellor

Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio chooses Carmen Farina

New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio has appointed a lifelong educator, Carmen Fariña, as the next chancellor of the New York City school system. The New York Times reports that Fariña worked in the city’s school system for about 40 years, serving as a teacher, principal and a regional superintendent in Brooklyn. She retired in 2006 after two years as deputy chancellor.
