Carrollton-Farmers Branch (Texas) district is closing 4 campuses
The Carrollton-Farmers Branch (Texas) district is closing four schools at the end of the academic year.
WFAA-TV reports that the school board, in response to declining enrollment and budget shortfalls, has voted to close Central, McCoy and Furneaux elementary schools in Carrollton, and Long Middle School in Dallas.
The district says the closings will save up to $9 million within the first year and eliminate 2,300 empty seats.
"From declining birth rates, state funding cuts, alternative school options and more, we refuse to sit by and must overcome these challenges," says Board President Randy Schackmann. "We want our district to continue to be a place where our students have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential.”
