Century-old school building will close in Fauquier County (Va.) district
The Fauquier County (Va.) district has invited alumni, community members, students and staff to commemorate the closure this month of Warrenton Middle School in Warrenton.
Fauquier Now reports that the middle school, which was built in the 1920s, has served as a high school, junior high school, middle school and elementary school over the past century.
The closure of the school was prompted by the school system's decision to consolidate Warrenton and Taylor middle schools. Taylor Middle is being renovated and expanded.
While renovations are being done, Taylor Middle School will operate temporarily at the Warrenton Middle campus.
The Warrenton School commemorative event on May 19 will feature tours of the building, the digging up of a time capsule and a historical presentation.
