From The Las Vegas Sun: The failure of a tax referendum to pay for school renovations in the Clark County (Nev.) district may portend unpopular and drastic decisions in the future, options such as reverting to a year-round school calendar and school closures.

EARLIER.... From The Las Vegas Sun: The Clark County (Nev.) School District's tax initiative to pay for school renovations has failed. The decisive defeat represents the first time in about 25 years that a capital improvement proposal put forward by the district has been rejected, officials say. The initiative lost 65.6 percent to 34.4 percent. The district had hoped to generate up to $720 million over six years to pay for high-priority renovations and technology upgrades at 40 schools.
