From The Memphis Commercial Appeal: A proposed contract between the unified Memphis-Shelby County (Tenn.) school board and county government that could threaten the viability of municipal school districts may be on its way back to the board agenda. Supporters say the arrangement, which would trump state legislation that would let new municipal suburban districts gain control of school facilities within their boundaries at little or no cost. If suburban municipalities could be obtained the buildings at a low cost, that would make such suburban districts financially feasible, consultants say.
