FromThe Chicago Tribune: The Thornton Township (Ill.) High School District 205Board has voted to drop a plan to transformThornridge High School into a freshman academy. By suspending the transformation, the district may have to relinquish a $18 million federal grant. The proposal for a freshman center had won state and federal support, but it came under fire from parents. Three parents who campaigned for seats on the school board with a platform to save Thornridge High School were elected, and after being sworn in, they moved quickly to suspend the transformation plan. The freshman academy plan was proposed by Supt. J. Kamala Buckner, but she resigned after the board election.
