Two 3-year-old children killed in Kentucky school bus crash

Bus taking Head Start students home crashed on country road in Carroll County

From The Louisville Courier-Journal: Two children on their way home from a Head Start program in Carroll County, Ky., died Monday afternoon when their school bus overturned and struck a tree. The bus carried nine children and two adults, and some of the children were trapped inside until rescue workers could free them. Two children were declared dead at the scene. Four children were airlifted to hospitals and three were released to their parents.

UPDATE from the Kentucky State Police: The two children killed in the crash have been identified as Ryder Deitz and Caroline Tuttle; both were 3 years old and from Carrollton, Ky. An accident reconstruction team is examining the bus to look for any mechanical issues or other factors that could have contributed to the crash.

MORE from The Louisville Courier-Journal: Three other children that suffered serious injuries in the crash were in stable condition in the intensive care unit of Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville. They have fractures and head injuries. Another injured child was in serious condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. A bus assistant also was taken to University of Kentucky, but the patient's condition was unknown.
