Charleston County says furloughs will save the district $600,000

About 500 year-round Charleston County, S.C., school employees will have to take four days without pay this spring to compensate for mid-year budget cuts of $13.3 million. The School Board approved the mandatory four-day furlough in an 8-1 vote. This will be the district's first mandatory furlough, and the four days will be April 3, 6, 7 and 8 during spring break. Officials estimate the furlough will save $600,000.
