West Virginia district keeps on track for new elementary

Some had argued to the Kanawha County board that flooding problems at an existing school should be a greater priority

TheKanawha County (W.Va.) school board will not ask the state School Building Authority for funds to replace the frequently flooded Bonham Elementary near Sissonville. Instead, the district will continue with plans to build a second new elementary school on the West Side of Charleston. The second West Side school would consolidate students from J.E. Robins and Watts. One board member has said that safety conditions at Bonham might have been bad enough to warrant delaying the West Side school. Bonham has flooded a half-dozen times in the past eight years and been evacuated numerous times. To read The Charleston Daily Mail article, click here.
