MIchigan district will close two schools because of dropping enrollment

Van Dyke district in Warren, Mich., says closures will reduce expected deficit.

The Van Dyke school district in Warren, Mich., has decided to close two of its six elementary schools--Harding and Lincoln. Van Dyke's enrollment has dropped from more than 4,000 students in 2002 to about 3,670 today. The district would be operating in a deficit if the schools are not closed.
