Illinois elementary school reverts to remote learning after about 40 students test positive for Covid-19

Nov. 16, 2021
Students at Central Elementary in O'Fallon expect to return to in-person learning on Nov. 29.

Central (Ill.) School District 104 is returning Central Elementary School in O'Fallon to remote learning after about 40 students tested positive for Covid-19.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports the students will remain in remote learning until after the Thanksgiving break.

“The safety of the students, their families and the Central 104 staff remains our number one priority, so we moved to remote learning to stop the spread,” Superintendent Dawn Elser said in an email.

The pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade school reports that 37 students have tested positive for Covid. Seven staff members also tested positive, but school officials said they were able to return to work last Tuesday.

The district's only other school, Joseph Arthur Middle School, is continuing as normal with in-person instruction.
