From the 2026 Educational Interiors Showcase: Onboarding Center, University of Pennsylvania

The project was recognized as an Outstanding Design in the Administrative Areas/Offices category in this year’s portfolio.

Key Highlights

  • Created a centralized onboarding office to streamline new employee administrative processes.
  • Selected a vacant storefront adjacent to campus for a temporary, accessible onboarding location.
  • Utilized relocatable furniture partitions to set up the space, allowing for future upgrades.
  • The pop-up approach offers flexibility and cost-effectiveness while maintaining functionality.

To centralize the onboarding of new employees, the University of Pennsylvania established a single office to coordinate the administrative process for new hires. The University created a pilot (pop-up) location for this office that would be easily accessible. A vacant storefront adjacent to the campus was selected. Because this space was considered a “pop-up,” permanent upgrades were limited. Offices were created using furniture partitions that were relocated to the final Onboarding Center location.
