From the 2025 Architectural Portfolio: Lebanon Junior High School

The project was recognized for its outstanding design in the Middle Schools category.

Key Highlights

  • A bright, secure vestibule enhances safety and creates a welcoming entry for visitors and students.
  • The commons area features clerestory windows and a mezzanine that encorages social interaction and group activities.

The new Lebanon Junior High School for grades seven and eight in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, enables the former Lebanon Middle School to be used for grades five and six. The building provides an opportunity for the dense urban district to offer a larger open “welcoming” environment. The former 1938 building had a small one-story lobby with little daylight or space to gather. The new vestibule is bathed in light, and a secure sequence stops guests at reception before letting them farther into the building. The commons area, where students gather and socially interact, is a two-story space illuminated with daylight from clerestory windows; a mezzanine area used for small groups overlooks this area.
