The Net Zero Science Addition at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Illinois, exemplifies the school’s dedication to sustainability and STEM education. The building boasts energy-efficient features like geothermal, solar power and a high-performance building envelope. Biophilic elements—natural light, outdoor learning spaces and native gardens—enhance student well-being and creativity while promoting environmental responsibility and energy-efficient practices. The Science Addition enhances STEM education with 13 advanced science labs plus a central chemical lab. Designed with sustainability and biophilic principles, these spaces combine functionality with aesthetics to inspire curiosity and learning.
