Key Highlights

  • Three classroom wings are organized into 'academic neighborhoods' to create smaller, more connected learning communities.
  • Each wing emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, integrating science, engineering, arts, and digital technology.

Walpole Middle School in Walpole, Massachusetts, integrates two existing student bodies into a single structure that promotes lifelong learning and project-based instruction in a safe and inclusive environment. Organized into three classroom wings across three floors, the school has “academic neighborhoods” that reduce the perceived scale, and help students feel more connected and less overwhelmed. Each neighborhood fosters its own identity while contributing to the larger school community. The plan emphasizes interdisciplinary learning by integrating science at the head of each wing, with close adjacency to engineering, arts and digital tech spaces.
