Moreno Valley High School Performing Arts Center in Moreno Valley, Calif., provides support spaces, a band/orchestra classroom, a choir classroom and drama rehearsal/classroom spaces, as well as a scene shop and lobby/gallery. The building is constructed of exposed concrete masonry units, which gives it the desired noise attenuation and an energy-saving thermal time lag. The building was designed with the participation of students, faculty and administration. The artwork on the south elevation depicting band, choral, theater and dance was designed and executed by students. The convex curves on the exterior and interior optimize the acoustical disbursement, which is adjustable.
