Lilly Library, in the heart of Indiana University’s Bloomington campus, houses some 460,000 books, 120,000 pieces of sheet music, and more than 8.5 million manuscripts. In 2019, funding was secured to provide much-needed renovations. The project has reinvigorated the library and elevated its capacity to preserve rare materials and protect library holdings. Each floor plan is unique, and many of the original aspects of the building were preserved, including the restoration of all the wood finishes and coffered ceilings. Classroom space was added to the previously unused lower level by updating and condensing the library’s antiquated mechanical systems.
