The New Booker T. Washington School in New Orleans, La., replaces a building constructed in 1942 that was the first high school in New Orleans for African American students focusing on academic and vocational classes. In 2005, the school was significantly damaged by Hurricane Katrina and closed. It remained in disrepair until 2012 when plans began to revitalize the school and demolition was initiated.
