$75 million computer software upgrade at University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina is carrying out a six-year, $75 million overhaul of the its 1970s-era software. The university wants to create an easy-to-use, more secure system that will serve all eight of its campuses and its new online school, Palmetto College. The upgrades, which began in 2010, is being paid for by technology fees students pay and general university money. Officials expect the improvements will result in savings from reduced staffing and lower operating costs.
