24 schools to close in Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York

Two dozen Catholic schools in Manhattan, the Bronx and the suburbs of New York City will close at the end of the year, The New York Daily News says. The Archdiocese of New York says that after a months-long review, a group of regional boards appointed by the archdiocese has decided to shutter 22 elementary schools and two high schools.

In an Archdiocesan news release, Cardinal Timothy Dolan says, "This reconfiguration process will help ensure that our schools will be financially stable, sustainable and, more importantly, open to all students."
