Voters heading to the polls Tuesday will be picking their elected representatives, but in many areas they also will be deciding whether their local school districts should receive authorization to spend billions of dollars to build, renovate and maintain education facilities.
In Texas, with many fast-growing school systems, dozens of districts have bond proposals on the ballot that total more than $5.5 billion. The largest request, $992.6 million, will be decided by voters in the Fort Bend district near Houston.
