Indian River school board approves compliance officer position

The Indian River School District in Delaware has created a new director of compliance position in order to protect itself from lawsuits, Coastal Point reported. With more than 9,000 students and over 1,000 employees, the leaders of the district decided that it was best to follow the example of higher education institutions and hire someone to ensure that they are in compliance with the many federal and state regulations that govern its schools. The district expects that the new employee will help ensure that they are meeting all the legal requirements, particularly as it pertains to discrimination, students with disabilities, and closing the income achievement gap.
