Young Catholics question firings over gay marriage

Several faculty members at Catholic institutions have been let go after disclosing same-sex marriage plans.

For Catholic school and church leaders, the response to same-sex marriage is clear. The church opposes same-sex marriage, and school officials generally sign contracts saying they will abide by church teachings so that their lives can be models for their students. But, The New York Times reports, for some young Catholics, the firings of faculty members who plan to enter into a same-sex marriage are mystifying, particularly given the new tone set by Pope Francis.
