Former board member in Carlsbad, Calif., will pay $4,000 to settle conflict-of-interest probe

A former school board member in the Carlsbad (Calif.) Unified District who voted last year to award a $100,000 district contract to a law firm she then went to work for has agreed to pay $4,000 to end a state conflict-of-interest investigation. UT San Diego says Kelli Moors voted with the board majority July 24 to award a contract worth up to $100,000 to Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost even though she had agreed one day earlier to take a job with the firm. Moors had been elected to four terms on the board before stepping down in August.
