Bel-Nor Elementary School in the Normandy (Mo.) district has closed, and the 333 students there will be absorbed by the two other elementary schools in the district. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the unusual midyear closing is one of the consequences of the Missouri law that lets students from unaccredited districts, such as Normandy, to transfer to higher-performing schools at the home district's expense. Normandy has incurred costs of $15 million for about 1,000 students who have transferred.
