Ohio district agrees to remove Jesus painting

The East Muskingum (Ohio) school district will remove a painting of Jesus from an office at John Glenn High School in New Concord. The Columbus Dispatch reports that Allison Whaley, a senior at the school was frustrated by a perceived lack of tolerance following the school’s removal of an art-class t-shirt project that included one that read “Gay is Okay.” In response, Whaley argued that the painting in the school office be removed, and the school board agreed to do so. East Muskingum Superintendent Jill Johnson says the painting depicts Jesus in a field with lambs. It was donated in honor of a Latin teacher who died in 1971 after serving the district for more than 50 years. The painting will be moved to a local church.
