Plan calls for closing 7 schools in the city of Baltimore

Proposal would affect 2,800 students in 20 programs

The Baltimore city school district is proposing to close seven schools in June, including struggling programs that originally were slated to stay open and undergo renovations. The Baltimore Sun reports that the recommendation from interim district CEO Tisha Edwards would affect 2,800 students in 20 programs. Edwards says the plan reflects the district's attempt to close academically struggling programs and also help the system stretch the $1 billion it has to renovate buildings.
