Voters reject $495 million bond request in Jordan (Utah) district

Voters in the Jordan (Utah) School District have resoundingly rejected a proposed $495 million bond. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that only 33 percent of voters cast ballots for the bond, according to unofficial results. The bond proposal, the biggest ever in Utah, sought funds to build and remodel schools, buy land, erect a transportation facility and replace the Jordan Applied Technical Center. The district says it needs to build more classrooms to accommodate rapid enrollment growth. The 51,000-student district expects an additional 29,000 during the next decade.
