Idaho district won't pursue proposal to arm teachers

Board member in Lake Pend Oreille district had proposed arming teachers

Officials at the Lake Pend Oreille (Idaho) district say a proposal to arm teachers has been scrapped. Boise State Public Radio reports that the district superintendent of schools and most of the staff opposes the idea of putting guns into the hands of staff and teachers. A survey reportedly found that only 14 percent of classified staff and 8 percent of teachers liked the idea. The board member who originally floated this idea may face a recall election next spring.
