Unaccredited district says it won't pay costs of students who have transferred

Oct. 25, 2013
Missouri law allows students in the Normandy district, which is unaccredited, to transfer to better performing schools systems.

The Normandy (Mo.) School Board has voted not to pay the costs for district students who have transferred into higher performing schools. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the vote puts the unaccredited district at odds with state law. It means the district will not be paying a total of $1.3 million to 14 other districts where students have transferred. The Normandy board also approved a plan projected to save the district more than $3 million this year by closing Bel-Nor Elementary School and laying off 103 employees, most of them teachers.
