Aisha Shule/W.E.B. Dubois Preparatory School was beset with financial difficulties

The Detroit school district will close the Aisha Shule/W.E.B. DuBois Preparatory School at the end of the month because of financial problems. The Detroit News says the charter school's serious financial problems left district officials with little hope that the it could improve student achievement and maintain a safe learning environment. school The Aisha Shule is an African-centered school for students in grades 6-12. It opened in 1974 and became a district-authorized charter school in 1994.

UPDATE: Instead of waiting until the end of the month, the school has been closed already, and its 110 students are transfering to other schools. (The Detroit News)
