Ohio district administrator indicted on evidence tampering charge in connection with student rape investigation

The director of information technology in the Steubenville (Ohio) school district has been indicted on charges of tampering with evidence in connection with the August 2012 rape of a 16-year-old girl. The Cleveland Plain Dealer says the indictment also accuses the director, William Rhinaman, 53, of obstructing a grand jury investigation and lying under oath. In March, two football players on the Steubenville High team were found delinquent – the juvenile equivalent of guilty – for allegedly raping and taking nude photos of the girl, who had been assaulted after a night of parties in August 2012. Testimony indicated that the assault occurred when the girl was drunk and appeared to be passed out. The case captured international attention after accusations surfaced that there was a cover-up by school and local officials to protect the high school athletes.
