Appeals court says victims in 2008 school shooting can't sue Detroit district

A federal appeals court has ruled that victims of a 2008 shooting near Henry Ford High School in Detroit can’t sue the city school system, the school principal and two security guards. The Detroit Free Press says the judges ruled that the violence "was unquestionably committed by private actors" and rejected arguments that the school system was at fault for not breaking up the altercation more effectively. The case stemmed from an October 2008 fight between two students that escalated after school when one of the students and his friends opened fire on a group of students. One student was killed and three were injured.
