Teachers at many charter schools opt for shorter tenure

Traditional public schools try to reduce teacher turnover, but some charter networks accept or even encourage instructors to move on after two to five years.

Many charter school networks are creating a job climate in which teaching for two to five years is seen as acceptable and, at times, even desirable. The New York Times reports that this is a change from what is the norm in traditional public schools, where leaders and policy makers have long made it a priority to reduce teacher turnover. A teacher in a traditional public school has an average of about 14 years of experience.
