Broward County (Fla.) district told to compensate teachers who worked longer day

An arbitrator has ruled that the Broward County (Fla.) school district must compensate teachers who taught an additional hour last year when high school schedules were changed. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the decision is the second time the arbitrator has ruled in favor of the union. In June, an arbitrator said the district needed to return to previous high school schedules because it had violated the teacher's union contract in making the change. The Broward Teachers Union had filed a complaint after the district changed high school schedules and required teachers to teach a sixth period without increasing their compensation.
