From WFAA-TV: The Dallas Independent School District has selected Mike Miles to be the district's next superintendent. He is a military veteran turned school leader who spent the last six years as superintendent of Harrison School District Two in Colorado Springs, Colo. But with a little more than 10,000 students, its student population is a fraction of the 157,000-student Dallas district. Mike Miles was a polarizing figure in Colorado, but Dallas board members see him an innovator who's not afraid to ruffle some feathers.
ALSO....from The Colorado Springs Gazette: Miles has been in the vanguard of educators nationwide using new and sometimes controversial techniques to turn around failing schools. Under his leadership he made it clear that poverty and family problems are no excuse for low achievement. The board and Miles adopted a pay-for performance system that compensates teachers based on how well students do.
