Lawsuit accuses Orange County (Fla.) district of censoring atheist pamphlets

An atheist group that distributed pamphlets in 11 Orange County, Fla., high schools last month is accusing the school district of censorship. The Orlando Sentinel says the Freedom From Religion Foundation and its local affiliate, the Central Florida Freethought Community, have sued the school system because they were not allowed to distribute some materials. Four books, one essay and four brochures were turned down by the school district as inappropriate for distribution. They included pamphlets called: "An X-rated Book: Sex and Obscenity in the Bible," "What Does The Bible Say About Abortion?" and books including "Jesus is Dead" and "What On Earth Is An Atheist." The school district contends that it has the legal right to determine what materials are appropriate for a school setting.
