Broward County (Fla.) board to discuss the fate of aging portable classrooms
June 7, 2013
The Broward County (Fla.) district is considering a plan to remove 1,180 portable classrooms that are older than 20 years. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel says the plan would eliminate 79 percent of the district's oldest portables. The other units would be able to house students, but could not count toward a school's total enrollment capacity. Some board members worry that removing the portables would cause attendance boundaries to shift dramatically. Whether the district keeps older portables, disposes of them or moves them elsewhere, a sizeable price tag will be attached.
