Buena Vista (Mich.) board meets, but schools remain closed

May 10, 2013
Schools in district near Saginaw, Mich., have been shut down as officials try to dig out of financial hole.

Video from WNEM-TV: The Buena Vista (Mich.) School Board met for the third time this week, but it provided few answers for hundreds wondering about the future of schools, which have been closed all week because of a financial crisis. The board closed schools and laid off all but three employees this week after the Michigan Department of Education canceled three months of state aid payments to the district. State officials discovered Buena Vista had pocketed $580,000 in state funds for a program it no longer operated.
