Houston school district officials say they are prepared to give students at up to 18 high schools their own laptops next school year. The Houston Chronicle says the district's chief technology officer, Lenny Schad, has spelled out some of the plan to the school board: Teachers will get laptops in the first semester, and students will get their machines in January. The district is analyzing its high schools to determine how many are technologically ready to accommodate the laptops. The number won’t be more than 18, Schad says.
