Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) board wants to put a $294 million bond plan on the ballot

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) school board has asked county commissioners to place a $294 million bond request on the November ballot, but commissioners will have to determine how to balance the competing funding requests of the school district and Central Piedmont Community College. The Charlotte Observer says county staff members have told the district and the college that commissioners are willing to put a total of $300 million in bond requests before voters; the amount would be divided between the two education systems. The school district plan encompasses 18 projects, including three new K-8 schools and a new small high school.. Last week the community college presented a $430 million construction plan to the county.
