From The San Francisco Chronicle: Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory has chosen to build its new research facility in Richmond, Calif., a move that could rank the city with Livermore and Berkeley as a new hub for scientific innovation. The lab's new campus will bring in more than 800 jobs, attract spin-off enterprises and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue. The city's winning pitch was based on its proximity to the lab's main campus in the Berkeley hills and the adjacent open space that can be developed for future expansion. Another major advantage is that the University of California, which oversees the lab, already owns the property.

NOVEMBER 2011...from The Bay Citizen: Cities and developers waiting to learn where a second campus for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will be situated are going to have to wait a little longer. The lab says it expects to decide in early 2012. The original request for qualifications from the University of California, which runs the lab for the Department of Energy, drew 20 applications. The six finalists are Alameda Point, Berkeley Aquatic Park West, Brooklyn Basin in Oakland, Emeryville/Berkeley, Golden Gate Fields (which spans Berkeley and Albany), and Richmond Field Station.
