Ohio steps in to take control of Lorain district

April 9, 2013
District has failed to meet standards for academic performance.

The state of Ohio is taking control of the Lorain school district. The Elyria Chronicle-Telegram says that Ohio Superintendent of Instruction Richard Ross has created an Academic Distress Commission to oversee academics in Lorain. The state acted because Lorain has not made adequate yearly progress in academics for four straight years. The district met just one of 26 standards on the annual state academic report card in 2011-12.
