Audit identifies $6.1 million in questionable costs for modular construction in Louisiana

Recovery School District spent $105 million on modular campuses after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

A state audit faults Louisiana's Recovery School District for not properly overseeing construction of modular campuses after Hurricane Katrina. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that the lack of oversight resulted in $6.1 million in questionable costs on the $105 million project. The project's original budget increased by $29 million after 60 change orders and contract amendments, the audit says. The district says it has since increased construction oversight, so such problems no longer occur.
